Michelle began working at the Institute of Gerontology as a Research Assistant on a psychology project in 1998.  She was hired full time as a secretary in 1999, the same year she completed her BS in Psychology at Wayne State.  Michelle graduated Cum Laude from her Bachelor's program, completed her MA in Rehabilitation Counseling and Community Inclusion from WSU in 2004 and received her Graduate Certificate in Gerontology in May of 2006.  She is currently a Secretary III and is an invaluable asset to the Institute of Gerontology.  She is also volunteering for Hospice of Michigan and working with a patient with end stage Alzheimer's disease.

Job Description

  • Processing vendor payments, reimbursements to faculty and students, and research participant payments
  • Updating and maintaining the master mailing list database and compiling reports
  • Running accounting reports and processing personnel paperwork for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Arranging travel and hotel reservations for faculty, students and guests
  • Conference coordination for the annual Gerontological Society of America meeting and Issues in Aging conference
  • Ordering supplies and maintaining flow of office
  • Respond to inquiries both on-line and via phone about IOG events, educational and research programs.

Hospice of Michigan Volunteer--Clinical Patient Services and Grief Support (October 2008-Present)

--Volunteer work as Recreational Assistant for seniors at Waltonwood, Royal Oak (Sept. 2005-Sept. 2006)
--Completed several home trainings on counseling and disability issues
