April 30, 2009 - Research@Wayne, Dr. Jankowski receives 2009 Edward H. McNamara Award
Dr. Tom Jankowski, associate director of research in the Institute of Gerontology and the Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute, is the recipient of the 2009 Edward H. McNamara Award from The Senior Alliance, Michigan Area Agency on Aging 1-C. The award "is given to the individual deemed to have most closely followed the example set by former Board Chairman Edward H. McNamara, in the pursuit of excellence in aging services within The Senior Alliance system."

Tom Jankowski battled writer’s block for four years. While trying to complete his dissertation, he got distracted by a full-time job that lulled him further from his life’s goal. “I entertained thoughts of abandoning the doctorate completely,” he admits. “I became ambivalent, a stressful place to be. Straddling a fence is never comfortable. Four years of not making a decision can take its toll on you.”
